Qualifications and Understandings

Registered as a Licensed Optician/Contact lens fitter with the College of Opticians of BC
Strong Organizational skills
Strong Critical thinking skills
Excellent attention to details ability
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, staff, management, and doctors
Knowledge of the standards of practice and bylaws from the College of Opticians of BC


Main Duties will include but are not limited to:
  • Designs complete eyewear product by incorporating frame design elements, lens materials and optics with patient's prescription and lifestyle requirements.
  • Performs eyeglass frame adjustments and repairs. Includes proper aligment of frame, comfortable fit, functional vision and instructions on proper wear and care of eyeglasses.
  • Perform accurate measurements of lens power, pupilary distance, multifocal segment height, lens base curve, vertex distance and prism power.
  • Orders custom lens product from wholesale optical laboratories, monitors process, post charges and bill insurance when needed.
  • Edge lenses to fames and verify accuracy before dispensing.
  • Order Contact lenses for patients.
  • Perform thorough contact lens exams including the recommended follow up exams.
  • Verfies lens prescriptions of the ordered lenses and check for accuracy with COBC standards.
  • Assists in wholesale purchasing of frames and other products for resale to patients.
  • Assists in the return of authorized merchendise to manufactures and prepare credit forms.
  • Designs, arrange and maintains product displays.
  • Organizes, maintains, and cleans frames and display areas throughout the work day.
  • Monitors product inventory levels.
  • Maintains instruments and hand tools used in the lab and dispensary.
  • Maintains up to date job knowledge by attending after work training.
  • Answers phones when needed and helps front end staff with check ins and check out of patients.
  • Calls patients when orders are in and schedules appointments for pick ups or follow ups.
  • Provides patient education regarding lens materials, products, and designs.
  • Provides accurate recommendations to patients regarding proper eyeglass frame selection.
  • Educates the patient on how to properly maintain,care for, and wear their contacts and/or eyeglasses.
